Thomas was born in Xiamen, China and moved to Hong Kong when he was a baby. Since then, until this week, he lived, attended school and worked in Hong Kong, but he and his mother shared a “fantasy of the New World.” When Canada offered a pathway to immigration from Hong Kong in 2021, Thomas applied. He had planned to come to Toronto before looking for a job, but our posting crossed his path, we connected via Zoom, and it seemed destined to be. He has relevant experience from his 4 years as graduate student liaison at the Chinese U. of Hong Kong and 2 years in student information systems at Hong Kong Baptist U. Saying that Hong Kong is not a happy place now, he is enjoying the spaciousness, diversity and friendliness of Toronto and the S-C community. His interests include politics and culture “how the world works, how the world should work” as well as choral singing, playing the violin, and watching soccer (he calls it football).
