Sutherland-Chan students started off the new year getting back out into the community! On Sunday, January 13, 2019, they treated participants at Fitness Day at the Schwartz/Reisman Centre, in the community of Maple, in Vaughan. The facility is a Jewish Community Centre that welcomes everyone to join its membership. Fitness Day is a membership appreciation and new member recruitment event held twice a year. It is open to the public, and offers free access to the facilities and fitness classes for the day.
The Sutherland-Chan massage zone, 90-minute spin classes, smoothies from Healthy Planet, and guacamole samples from the Centre’s in-house nutritionist were provided in the building’s central atrium to create a festive “main street” atmosphere. Other fun activities available throughout the venue included a Bootcamp class, a youth basketball clinic, and Krav Maga class (Israeli army-designed self-defence training).
The popular event had more than 700 people in attendance. It was an excellent opportunity for S-C students to massage a wide range of participants, as the Centre attracts people of all ages, from young families to seniors. We have been asked to participate several times to date. Stephen Gray, the Centre’s Manager of Fitness Programs & Events, noted,
It’s always a pleasure having Sutherland-Chan students massage our participants. We can always count on them for quality and professionalism.
Here’s to another successful community outreach!
